Mpata, Mpanga win TNM Golf
Veteran golfer Stallad Mpata on Saturday won the TNM Business Enterprise Golf Competition after stiff competition at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).
Played in the stablefold format, Mpata had 37 points after counting out Greshom Chima. Medson Roka was third with 36 points.
“This is a great victory for me. I am in the mid 70s and for me to beat all of you is a great honour, “ said Mpata.
He also had words of appreciation to TNM for the tournament.
“It takes courage and resources to organise such a successful event,” he said.
Thando Tsibindi was nearest to the pin whereas Justice Ken Manda had the longest drive.
In the ladies section, the moment belonged to youthful golfer Jochebed Mpanga who beat Sandra Komakech to the first position. Mpanga had a score of 43 points whereas Komakech had 36.
Bridget Sinthamphi was nearest to the pin and Karen Baylis had the longest drive.
On her part, Mpanga thanked her husband Chris for inspiring her to victory.
LGC captain Brian Coombes also thanked TNM for considering the club to host the fully-fledged competition.
TNM’s chief officer (enterprise services) Vishwajeet Deshmukh described the golf tournament as a success.
“TNM is pleased that the objective of interacting with our customers and overall improvement of golfing standards in Malawi has been achieved during the year. TNM realises that golf is an important sport that promotes the wellbeing of players. Today has been a success. We’re, therefore, proud to be associated with such success. Next year, we will be here again,” he said. n
